Interim management when a critical role cannot remain vacant
When you need an experienced leader quickly, Agile Interim finds the right person for the assignment – and presents candidates within 48 hours.
What is interim management?
Interim management means an experienced leader steps into the business for a defined period to maintain operations, momentum, and results.
Interim management – also called Management for Hire or simply a temporary leader – is often used when a key person leaves, during transformation, growth, a change of ownership, a crisis, or a demanding transition. The interim leader takes full operational responsibility from day one and delivers immediate results – not to keep the seat warm, but to establish control and direction.
Not to keep the seat warm. To establish control, momentum, and direction – from day one.
When is interim management the right choice?
- ✓when a leader leaves suddenly
- ✓when someone is on sick leave or unavailable
- ✓when the company is undergoing transformation or restructuring
- ✓during a change of ownership, merger, or acquisition
- ✓during growth, expansion, or a demanding project
- ✓when you need capacity and experience quickly
- ✓when a thorough search would take longer than the role can remain vacant
- ✓when the board wants control during the transition
- —when the real need is a permanent hire without time pressure
- —when the role is not critical enough to require rapid external capacity
- —when you already have a clear internal solution
- —when the challenge is primarily about structure, not the individual
If interim management is not the right choice, we say so. We then consider executive search or another solution.

What our clients ask about
What is interim management? +
An experienced leader steps in for a defined period and takes operational responsibility – during a leadership departure, transformation, growth, or crisis.
What does interim management cost? +
Pricing depends on the level of the role and the scope and duration of the assignment. Interim work is typically billed per day or month, with clear terms agreed before starting. We provide a specific estimate after the needs assessment.
How quickly can you deliver? +
We present experienced candidates within 48 hours, thanks to a large, qualified candidate pool. We agree the start date with you.
How long does a typical assignment last? +
Most assignments last from 3 to 12 months, but are tailored to the need – from brief crisis support to longer transformation assignments.
Which roles do you fill most often? +
CEO, CFO, CHRO, and COO are the most common roles, but we also fill other key roles and provide management for hire.
How do we know whether we need an interim or permanent leader? +
If the priority is to maintain operations and momentum now, interim management is often the right choice. If the goal is a lasting solution without time pressure, executive search is usually the answer. Often the answer is both – interim management first, search afterward.
Can you help throughout Norway? +
Yes. We have offices in Oslo/Lysaker, Bergen, Stavanger, Vestfold & Telemark, and Stockholm, and provide interim leaders throughout Norway and the Nordic region.
What happens if we want to make a permanent hire afterward? +
We then move on to an executive search process. The interim period often provides valuable insight into what the role actually requires – strengthening the permanent recruitment process.
