Welcome to our series of interviews presenting our outstanding board candidates.

These interviews give you a unique opportunity to get to know the inspiring individuals who are ready to bring their expertise and insight to the boardroom.

We have handpicked a selection of experienced leaders with a broad range of backgrounds and expertise. They represent a diversity of perspectives, and all share an understanding of the importance of good governance in achieving strategic and operational goals.

Through these interviews you will gain insight into what motivates them, their views on board work and, not least, the personal qualities and skills they can offer. We hope this will give a fuller picture of each candidate and inspire engagement and discussion about the role of the board in modern business management.

This time we talk to Tina Stiegler

Tina trained as an economist and has also studied literature and languages. She spent more than 18 years at Schibsted, where her roles included EVP HR & Corporate Strategy, Head of Next Media and COO/CFO of Schibsted’s Norwegian operations.   Tina has extensive board experience from Norwegian technology and media companies, for example Posten Norge, TV2 and Santander Consumer Bank, as well as several early-stage companies. She won the “Women’s Board Award” in 2021. Tina also has a background as an executive vice president at Umoe, with responsibility for Umoe’s restaurant business and related M&A activities during Covid-19.

What motivates you to serve on a board?

My deepest motivation is the opportunity to help shape the society, business and workplaces of the future. I am motivated by setting direction, providing support in demanding processes and transferring knowledge between different environments. I want to contribute to companies with a purpose and a role in society that I can identify with, and where I can use my expertise in digitalisation, customer insight, scaling and turnaround.

What are the most important qualities of a good board member?

  • She wants what is best for the company and devotes enough time and intellectual capacity to the role
  • She leans in to build a strong board community and good dynamics on the board
  • She is aware of, and dares to use, her own expertise, for example by asking questions where others do not
  • She manages not to become too operational and detail-oriented

What is your philosophy on board work?

I think it is important to approach new positions and roles with a good mix of humility and curiosity. To steer the company in the right direction, it is important to understand both the company and the market, and how the business model works now and going forward.

How would you like people to describe you after a board meeting?

Wise, cool and pleasant – and a key contributor to the company.

What is the most valuable lesson you have taken from your previous board experience?

I like to understand the customer experience well, so I always test and use the company’s products and services as much as possible, often comparing them with competitors’ offerings. That has given me many eye-opening moments that have been useful in my board work.

What do you hope to contribute as a board member?

Perspective, pace and confidence. Clear strategic direction, combined with realism in execution.
